How to Prepare for Performance Reviews

Strong performance reviews will give you a leg up in your career advancement efforts. Around the Valiant Marketing Group office, we’ve found the following simple strategies especially helpful in preparing for any kind of evaluations.

First of all, you have to know exactly how your performance will be measured long before you have a review. By asking about your supervisor’s expectations and how you’ll know when you’ve met them, you put yourself in better position to succeed.

We also endorse the practice of writing your own periodic reviews based on the metrics your manager outlined. If you stick to the facts while being as objective as possible, your supervisor will be able to fill in the blanks and assess your performance when the time comes. In our Valiant Marketing Group view, anything you can do to ease the review process puts you in a more positive light.

After a review, it’s a good idea to document what was said just to make sure you’re on the same page as your manager. Asking for his or her confirmation is also recommended. From there, you’ll have written evidence of what you’ve achieved and what’s expected of you going forward.

These techniques can make performance reviews even more useful parts of your career pursuits. Follow Valiant Marketing Group on Twitter to find more of our best advancement insights.
